The sport of swimming provides many opportunities, such as making lifelong friends, obtaining a healthy lifestyle, and learning valuable life skills. For swimmers who would like to train for health and fitness, other aquatic sports, recreation or school carnivals and competitions, one of our squads could be the perfect place!
WestSwim squads are suitable for swimmers from Stage 9, and focuses on skill development, fitness, progress, fun, physical challenges and swimming training skills for life. WestSwim operates a perpetual programme, with ongoing swimming test sets and drill sets to ensure your child is continually challenged.
Commencing in August 2019, this coaching program has a selection of swimming squads to suit all ages and abilities at the Craigie Leisure Centre. Swimmers can choose to swim either the Competitive Development or Fitness streams at any time dependent on their own personal swimming goals and needs.
COMPETITIVE DEVELOPMENT STREAM
Stroke Development Squad – 7 to 13 years
This squad is the first level of the WestSwim Craigie program, and focuses on effective and efficient stroke technique, Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke turns and the development of Butterfly. This swim squad is perfect for young swimmers who are wanting to develop their swimming ability. Swimmers will train up to 1000 – 1200 metres in the Stroke Development Squad at each training session, with a mix of all swimming strokes, drills and skills. Swimmers are coached by two ASCTA accredited swim coaches in each squad in collaboration with Breakers Swimming Club. It is recommended that swimmers bring their own swimming training mesh bag with flippers (long), kickboard and pull buoy so they can be prepared quickly.
Our coaching team recommend regular attendance to two to four sessions per week to develop into proficient and strong squad swimmers.
Pricing – $42.00 fortnight direct debit (plus pool entry payable to Craigie Leisure Centre)
Juniors Squad – 8 to 14 years
WestSwim operate three SwimFit Squads at Craigie Leisure Centre for junior swimmers through to adults. The SwimFit squads are perfect for swimmers who enjoy swimming for health and fitness, or are looking to compete in school swimming, surf club, open water or triathlon events.
A SwimFit swimmer can also be very competitive at WA State level in these squads, by consistently attending three or more sessions per week. Swimmers in the 9 to 13 years squad will swim up to 1500 metres, the 13 to 18 years squad up to 2500m, and the senior squad up to 5000m in each training session with a mix of all swimming strokes and skills. Swimmers are coached by a qualified and experienced swimming coach on the side of the pool. Some training equipment is provided but swimmers are recommended to bring their own swimming mesh bag with flippers (long), pull buoy and kick board so swimmers can changeover quickly between sets.
Pricing – $47.00 fortnight direct debit (plus pool entry payable to Craigie Leisure Centre)
This swim squads provide the right pathway for swimmers to move into more competitive swim squads which focus on State, National and International pool competitions, Open Water, Surf Club and School Competitions. These competitive squads are also available at Craigie Leisure and include the Intermediate and National Squads, managed by Breakers Swimming Club.
